Born in Stockholm in 1980, she grew up with her Japanese father, Swedish mother, and other family members.

A regular at various music events, she could compose lyrics and melody when she was just 21 years old. Her talent was fully recognised after she appeared in a performance with Swedish singer and writer, Annika Norlin.

In 2007, she debuted with the album, “Though, I'm Just Me”. She gained immense popularity due to her beautiful voice, personality and charisma. Her album, “Though, I'm Just Me” won the Golden Disc award, and held the record of being No.1 for two consecutive weeks on Sweden's iTunes chart. In January 2008, she won the ‘best newcomer’ (best new artiste) title at the P3 Guld (National Radio Awards).

In addition, she was nominated for Sweden's Grammy award in several categories. Her second album, ‘GBG vs STHLM’, was released in 2009. As she performs around the world, Maia and her music become much sought after in many countries.
